On its first move, it can advance 1 or 2 squares; after that, it can only move one square at a time. If it reaches the opposite side of the board, it undergoes "pawn promotion" (meaning it can be exchanged for a Bishop ♗, Knight ♘, Queen ♕, or Rook ♖).

Bishop ♗: The bishop can move only diagonally, and it is worth 3 points.
Knight ♘: The knight moves in an L-shape and can jump over other pieces; it is also worth 3 points.
Queen ♕: The queen can move in any direction (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). It is the second most important piece, worth 9 points.
