Google's Android Developer Verification program, rolling out starting September 2026, requires all app developers to centrally register with Google, provide government ID, and link signing keys. Unverified apps on certified Android devices face blocking or severe sideloading friction, drawing massive pushback from open-source advocates. This will only happen in my country, Brazil; in other countries it will happen next year.
